“Oooooooooooooooo!”  “S s s c c c r r r a a a t t t c c c h h h!”  “Thump!  Thump!  Thump!”  “Eeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkk!”  Halloween is almost here!  Can you hear it?  We are decorated and ready for Halloween here at the library.  We hope that everyone has a spooktacular time and stays safe while making their rounds for trick or treating!  Hey, here is a real treat – a good book to read!!!

Here is a schedule of events for the library for the month of November.

Toddler Time will be offered on November 2nd and November 16th at 11 a.m.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to attend.  We have stories, crafts, and a light snack.  Please join us for Toddler Time at the library.

Here is a plug for the Rotary Club of Brownsville.  The Rotary Club will be having their Annual Pancake Day on Tuesday, November 3rd from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Culver Hall of First United Methodist Church.  Tickets are $5.00 available from any Rotary member (Katherine at the Library has tickets).

Friends Night at the Library will be offered on Tuesday, November 10th at 7 p.m.  Our guest speaker will be Mr. William Stewart.  Mr. Stewart, a local Brownsville resident, has written a book of poetry entitled “Poetry for Us Common Folk.”  We are very excited to have Mr. Stewart with us for this evening.  All are invited to attend.

Let us all remember to honor our veterans on Veteran’s Day on November 11th.

There will be no Lunch & Learn program for the months of November and December.  Lunch & Learn will return in January 2010.  If you know of an interesting program/person that would be willing to share their stories with us for a Lunch & Learn program, please contact the library and let Katherine or Sherry know.  Thanks!

The Library will be closed on Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th in honor of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Just a reminder – if you are too sick to go to work or to school, you are too sick to come to the library.  Thanks!

            Happy Reading!

Have you looked at the square lately?  It’s looking a lot like Fall Fest up there with all those scarecrows.  Be sure to come to the square on Saturday, October 17th for the Hatchie Fall Fest.  It will be a day of fun.  Look for the library’s entry for the scarecrow contest.  We are really proud of him.  He’s our “Lil Mummy.”  Since fall is here we need to start decorating the library and Cousin Itt will soon make his annual appearance at the circulation desk.  We wonder what his costume will be this year???

On to library news!  Toddler Time will be offered on Monday October 19th at 11 a.m.  All toddlers and the caregivers are invited to attend.  We have stories, songs, crafts and lots of fun.  Join us for Toddler Time at the library on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at 11 a.m.

Lunch & Learn is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28th at 12 noon in the library meeting room.  We will have as our guest speaker Mr. Tom Lea (and wife Judy!) from the Treasure Chest Florist for his annual Fall Colors demonstration.  We are always delighted to have Mr. Tom and Miss Judy with us.  The floral arrangements are spectacular.  Remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.  Lunch & Learn at the library on Oct. 28th at noon.

The Friends of the Library have an upcoming event at the library in November.  Friends Night is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10th at 7 p.m.  The guest speaker will be Brownsville’s own Mr. William Stewart, author of “Poetry for Us Common Folk.”  Please join us as we welcome Mr. Stewart (and his lovely wife Molly) to the Elma Ross Public Library for a night of poetry.  Friends Night, Nov. 10th at 7 p.m. – join us!

            Happy Reading!

This is going to be intersting.  Our local paper didn’t run the Library Corner article for 10 1 09 like they should have and re-ran it on 10 8 09.  The content hadn’t changed.  So . . .

We’ll just say “Come visit us at the library today!”

Do you use TEL? the Tennessee Electronic Library is a great database full of thousands of professional articles, journals, books, maps, and all sorts of research materials. We encourage all students to check out TEL. It is a great site!
We also like to encourage people who like to listen to their favorite books to check out the READS program. You can download your favorite book to your home computer, CDs, or MP3 player of your choice. How great is that?
REMINDER – If you are too sick to go to school or to work, you are too sick to come to the library. If you are sick, please stay home. Thanks.
Happy reading!
