It is just a wonder that the first month of the new year is coming to a close in just a few days.  Have you kept your resolutions?  We have a great one for the library – read a little each day.  Also, please consider becoming a member of the Friends of the Elma Ross Public Library.  The Friends group is instrumental in providing materials for the library and your support is greatly appreciated.  Here is the schedule of events for February.

Toddler Time will be offered on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 11 a.m.  We have stories, coloring, and a light snack.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to attend.  We love Toddler Time!

The Friends of the Library Annual Meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 6 p.m.  Our guest speaker will be Mrs. Beverly Greene Bond, Associate Professor of History from the University of Memphis.  Mrs. Bond, together with her co-editor Professor Sarah Wilkerson Freeman of Arkansas State University, have compiled “Tennessee Women:  Their Lives and Times”.  We look forward to having Professor Bond with us.  The library will be taking reservations for this event shortly.  A heavy hors’ douvre meal will be available.  Cost for the meal will be determined shortly as well.  Please consider becoming a member of the Friends of the Library this year.

Toddler Time will be offered on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 11 a.m.  Come for stories, coloring and a snack!  All are invited for Toddler Time at the library.

Lunch & Learn will be offered on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 12 noon.  Our guest speaker is yet to be determined.  Stay tuned for details.  Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.

Well the year 2010 is here.  We are starting the year off right here at the library.  We have put all the holiday decorations up.  We are in the process of changing the bulletin boards.  It is a new year and we are excited about the possibilities for this year.  We hope that everyone made a New Year’s resolution to read a little each day.  Reading – it does a body good.

Lunch & Learn is back!  The first Lunch & Learn of the New Year is scheduled for Wednesday, January 27th at 12 noon in the library meeting room.  Our guest speaker will be Mr. David Rasmussen, CEO of the Haywood Park Hospital.  We are looking forward to having David here with us and to hear all about our hospital which is so vital to our community.  Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.  Let’s Lunch & Learn at the Library.

Do you have research needs?  Do you need access to professional journals and articles for a school project?  We have just the solution for you.  The library has access to the Tennessee Electronic Library, which is an on-line database of hundreds (thousands really) of scholarly journals and articles right at your fingertips.  Not only does TEL have all this great information, it even tells you how to cite the information. We love TEL!

We love helping people find just the right book.  We love nothing more that the feel of a book in our hands, all snuggled up in a warm blanket with a mug of hot chocolate in our hands.  We LOVE books!  We also know that people are travelling a lot and that people are constantly on the go and sometimes don’t have time to read.  We want everyone to remember that we also have the REEADS program here at the library.  The Regional E-book and Audio-book Download System is a great resource for downloading your favorite book to your home computer, CD’s, or MP3 player of your choice.  Just visit this site:  http://reads.lib.overdrive.com  You will have to have your library card to check the materials out, but this service is FREE.

We still have some great selections in our Book Sale tables and Reading Railroad Unclaimed Books Sales.  Come and check them out.

            Happy Reading!
