What a beautiful day in the neighborhood, to borrow a phrase from Mr. Fred Rogers.  Spring is such a wonderful time of the year.  All the trees and flowers are budding and blooming and everything is fresh and new.  We’ve been trying to spruce up and clear out the clutter here at the library too.  Ahh Spring . . .

We here at the library are trying to get in contact with Mr. James Peace, Mr. Larry Fitts, and Mr. Mike Dew.  Our phone calls have been unanswered.  We would like to schedule each of you gentlemen for our Lunch & Learn programs for the library for the months of April (28th) and May (26th).  Would you please call us so that we may schedule a time?  Please call the library at 772-9534.  We would like to give each mayoral candidate the chance to speak for Lunch & Learn.  Lunch & Learn for the month of April will be offered on Wednesday, April 28th at 12 noon in the library meeting room.  Bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.

Toddler Time will be offered again on Monday, April 19th at 11 a.m.  We have stories, coloring and a light snack.  All parents/caregivers of toddlers are invited to attend.  We love Toddler Time at the Library!  Please join us!

Since springtime is the time for planting, here is a list of a few of our gardening books for your reading pleasure.  We have:

                        “Food Gardens” by Edna Blair

“Growing Food and Flowers” by Marjorie Dietz

“Tennessee Gardener’s Guide” by Judy Lowe

“Gardening in Small Spaces” by Time Life Books

“Step by Step Garden Basics” by Better Homes and Gardens Books

            Happy Reading!

Spring has sprung – yea!!!!  We love seeing all the trees and flowers bloom all over town.  It is always so pretty.  We have been having some work done to the library roof and it is looking quite pretty as well.  Please pardon the occasional noise, the repaired roof is worth a little noise and dust.  Thank you for your patience.

The month of April has arrived.  Here is a list of events happening here at the library:

Toddler Time – April 5th & April 19th at 11 a.m.  Join us for stories, coloring and a light snack.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to attend.

Lunch & Learn – April 28th at 12 noon in the Meeting Room.  We are trying to coordinate for some of the other mayoral candidates to come and be with us.  We are finding it a bit difficult to contact some of these fine gentlemen.  If Mr. James Peace, Mr. Larry Fitts, and Mr. Mike Dew would please contact Katherine at the library to arrange a time (either April 28th for two people or May 26th for one additional person along with Mr. Ashworth) to come speak, we would greatly appreciate it.  Let’s Lunch & Learn at the Library!

We’ve added some new books to our collections.  Here is a brief list of some of the new titles:

“Aunt Dimity Down Under” by Nancy Atherton

“Secret Whispers” by V. C. Andrews

“Money to Burn” by James Grippando

“The New Codependency” by Melody Beattie

                        “Big Girl” by Danielle Steel

                        “Shattered” by Karen Robards

“I Know here I’m Going: Katherine Hepburn” by Charlotte Chandler

“Iron River” by T. Jefferson parker

“The Last Illusion” by Rhys Bowen

            Happy Reading!

Since it is the 1st of April, also know as April Fool’s Day, here is a brief history of this “holiday”.   The following material is from The Columbia Encyclopedia, 6th ed. Columbia University Press, 2000.   Reproduced in Kids InfoBits.  Detroit:  Gale, 2010.   http://galenet.galegroup.com/servlet/KidsInfoBits:

April Fool’s Day or All Fool’s Day, holiday of uncertain origin, known for practical

joking and celebrated on the first of April. Prior to the adoption of the Gregorian calendar

in 1564, the date was observed as New Year’s Day by cultures as varied as the Roman

and the Hindu. The holiday is considered to be related to the festival of the vernal

equinox, which occurs on Mar. 21. The English gave April Fool’s Day its first widespread

celebration during the 18th cent.

Have a happy April Fool’s Day!

The library would like to give a round of applause to Anne Banks and Jo Matherne who were our guest speakers for Lunch & Learn last week.  It was wonderful to have Miss Anne and Miss Jo with us.  Thank you both for sharing your visions of Haywood County, and your willingness to seek the office of city mayor with us.

The Library will be closed on Friday, April 2, 2010 in observance of Good Friday.  Everyone have a blessed day.

The library will offer Toddler Time on Monday, April 5th at 11 a.m.  We have stories, coloring and a light snack.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to join us for Toddler Time at the library.  Toddler Time will be offered again on Monday, April 19th at 11 a.m.

Lunch & Learn for April will be on Wednesday, April 28th at 12 noon.  We are working on speaker(s) for this date, we will keep you posted.

Hoppy (sorry, couldn’t resist the pun) Reading!
