Due to a family emergency with our presenter, the Friends Night previously scheduled for Tuesday, August 17th has been RESCHEDULED for Tuesday, September 7, at 7 p.m.  Our guest speaker will be Mr. B. Eliot, native of Covington, TN, who has written a book titled “Why Do Women . . .?”  We are looking forward to having Mr. Eliot here for a fun and entertaining evening.  All are invited to attend.  Please join us for Friends Night on September 7th at 7 p.m.

The Friends have W A Y   T O O   M A N Y books on the book sale tables.  In order to help clear off and clear up the library, we are having a Friends Book Sale!  The famous (or is that infamous??) Bag of Books Sale is back!  Come visit the library and check out our sale tables.  A standard-size plastic bag full of books will sell for $2.00 per bag.  If you wish to purchase a box of books, we will make deals according to the size of the box.  These prices are for books only – audios/videos/CDs/DVDs are individually priced.  Let’s help clear up the library and give some great books a good new home!  BOOK SALE!  BOOK SALE!  BOOK SALE!!

We also have an overabundance of unclaimed Reading Railroad Books that need some good homes as well.  These books are kept at the circulation desk and cost $2.00 each.  The proceeds from the sale of these books goes directly back into the Haywood County Reading Railroad.  Let’s support Reading Railroad!

Last but not least – the calendar of events for the month of September.  (Eegads, it is almost September already!  Where did the time go?)  Here it is:

School is back in swing and it is still HOT outside.  What better way to stay cool than to visit your local library and get some great reads!  We have great selections on our shelves that are just waiting for someone to check them out.  Happiness is reading!

Lunch & Learn will be offered on Wednesday, August 25th at 12 noon in the Library Meeting Room.  We are finalizing our speaker at the moment, so until I get a definitive “yes”, I cannot say who it will be right now.  But, we assure you that it will be good, informative, educational, etc and we look forward to having everyone here.  Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.

We have been receiving quite a few donated books lately that we have been replenishing our sale tables.  Come and check out the selections.  You never know what you will find!  Paperbacks and large, soft-cover books sell for $0.50 cents and small paperbacks sell for $0.10 cents.  Audios, videos and music CDs are priced individually, but these are still great deals!  We may even give a special price for a bag of books or a box of books.

Speaking of sales – we have way too many of the Reading Railroad Unclaimed Books sitting at the circulation desk.  These are high-quality, age-appropriate children’s books which sell for $2.00 each.  All the proceeds from the sale of these books goes right back into the Haywood County Reading Railroad program.  These books are written for children from birth to the age of five.  Every child needs books to read.  These books are located at the circulation desk – what a deal – $2.00 for a great kids book!

Do you know of a child under the age of five-years-old, who lives here in Haywood County, who isn’t already signed-up for Haywood County Reading Railroad?  If you do, please inform them about the Reading Railroad and send them to the library to pick up an application.  This is a FREE program for all children under the age of five.  Haywood County Reading Railroad was launched here is Haywood County six years ago this month and we want to keep it going for many, many, many more years.  Let’s sign-up these kids!  Readers make great leaders and we want leaders here in Haywood County!

            Happy Reading!

It’s here! It’s here!  What’s here?  August is here, that’s what!  My, how time flies.  School has started for all the teachers out there this week.  School will start for the kids in just a few days.  And yes, we can hear the collective “Groan!” made by all the kids who don’t want summer to end.

Since school is starting, we wanted to make everyone, teachers and students alike, aware of an absolutely wonderful program available to all, absolutely free, that can help with all your research needs.  Have you heard me talk about TEL before?  I know that I have mentioned it a few times, but it is always worth mentioning again.  TEL is the Tennessee Electronic Library, which offers, searchable databases, current issues, newspapers, test prep, and genealogy resources – all at your fingertips.  And did I mention that it was free?  It has something for all ages.  And if you have a computer with internet access at home, you can work on the TEL site from the comfort of your own house, still absolutely free!

Please remember to mark your calendars for the next Friends Night at the Library.  Tuesday, August 17th, at 7 p.m., the Friends of the Library will be sponsoring Friends Night with author B. Eliot, who has written a book titled “Why the Women . . .?”  This promises to be a very humorous evening.  Everyone is invited to join us for Friends Night.  Mr. Eliot has mid-south family ties, so let’s please make him feel welcomed to the Elma Ross Public Library for Friends Night on August 17th.  Light refreshments will be served.

There is another free service that is provided to all the patrons of the Elma Ross Public Library.  What is that you ask?  It’s READS!  The Regional E-Book and Audio-Book Download System is available to everyone with a valid library card.  Just visit this site:  http://reads.lib.overdrive.com to download your favorite book today.  Books are awesome!

            Happy Reading!
