We here at the Elma Ross Public Library would like to ask everyone who have books currently checked out to please call us (772-9534) and renew your books.  We are under renovations at the moment and we cannot access our book shelves to put books up or to check out.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.  We will announce sectional closings on the library Facebook page as needed.  Please bear with us and thank you for your cooperation.

Since out library shelves are not easily accessible right now, have you considered the READS program?  READS is the Regional E-book and Audio-book Download System.  You can download your book selections to your home computer or burn them to CDs or MP3 player of your choice.  And it’s free!  All you need is your library card and this website:  http://reads.lib.overdrive.com  READS is a great way to access your favorite books at the touch of your finger.

We hope that everyone has a happy, healthy, and safe Halloween!  Don’t eat too much candy!

Please remember to make your voice count – VOTE!  Election Day is Tuesday, November 2nd.  Please do your civic duty.  Since you will be out and about to vote, make plans to eat (breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner) at the Rotary Pancake Day fundraiser event which will be located at First United Methodist Church in Culver Hall.  Tickets are $5.00.  Mmmmmmm . . .pancakes!

Friends Night will be held on Tuesday, November 16th at 7 p.m.  Our guest speaker for the evening will be Dr. Joan Hartman, author of “Grace Finds Gold.”  We are looking very much forward to having Dr. Hartman with us again.  She is also the author of “Sam’s Special Cookie.”

            Happy Reading!

Wow, what a week!  We are having renovations done here at the library.  The workers are going by sections doing what they need to do.   There will be periodic closures of parts of the library.  We will post the section closings on the library Facebook page.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.  If you have any books, please call 772-9534 and renew them as the majority our shelves are shrink-wrapped at the moment.  We are looking forward to the new carpet and (eventually) fresh paint.

Lunch & Learn is coming quickly.  Lunch & Learn is scheduled for Wednesday, October 27th at 12 noon in the library meeting room.  Our guest speaker will be Mr. Tom Lea and his lovely wife Judy for their Annual Fall Harvest show.  Everyone is invited to attend.  Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.  Please join us as we welcome Tom and Judy Lea back to the Elma Ross Public Library.  Let’s Lunch & Learn at the Library!

The Friends of the Library will be hosting a Friends Night on Tuesday, November 16th at 7 p.m.  Our guest speaker will be Dr. Joan Hartman.  Dr. Hartman, author of “Sam’s Special Cookie”, has written another book titled “Grace Finds Gold.”  We are looking forward to having Dr. Hartman with us again.  All are invited to attend, so mark your calendars now.  Friends Night on November 16th at 7 p.m.

Now that fall is officially here, we would like to remind everyone that if you are too sick to go to work or to school, you are too sick to come to the library.  While we love all our patrons, please keep your germs to yourself and come back when you feel better.  Thank you for your consideration.

            Happy Reading!

It really is beginning to feel like fall out there.  Have you seen all the neat Scarecrows on the Courthouse lawn?  They look fantastic!  Nothing says fall like cuddling up on the couch with a warm blanket and reading a book by your favorite author with a steaming mug of hot chocolate beside you.  I can almost taste the melted marshmallows on top.  Yum!

Anyway . . . on to library news.  We have some exciting events happening here at the library this fall.   We have our regularly scheduled events of Toddler Time and Lunch & Learn coming up.

Toddler Time will be offered on Monday, October 18th at 11 a.m.  All toddlers and their caregivers and invited to attend.  We will be having Halloween themed books.  Ooooooo!!!, but they won’t be too scary, we promise!

Lunch & Learn is scheduled for Wednesday, October 27th at 12 noon.  We will be having Tom (and Judy) Lea from the Treasure Chest Florist back for his/their Annual Harvest Color Show.  Come and be dazzled by the talents and knowledge of Tom Lea.  Bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.

We, here at the library, would like to make people aware that some continuing renovations on the interior of the building may be beginning again soon.  These renovations include additional painting and removal of old carpet and installation of new carpet.  These improvements to the building are needed and will require the closing of “sections” of the building.  We will advise people of the sectional closings on the library Facebook page.  We apologize for any inconvenience; however, the end result will create a better library for everyone.  Please pardon our mess.

Help us celebrate Imagination Library Week, October 10th – 17th by dropping by the Haywood County Reading Railroad display in the InSouth Bank booth at Fall Fest on Saturday.  We will have application forms available so let’s sign-up these kids!

            Happy Reading!
