The New Year is just a day away!  Can you believe it?  The year 2010 is almost gone and the year 2011 is just about to begin.  Have you made a New Year’s resolution yet?  If you haven’t, here is one to consider: check out a book from the library once a week.  Everyone needs to broaden their mind.  Our minds need exercise just like the rest of our bodies and what better way to exercise the mind than to read!

Here is the calendar of events for the month of January 2011:

The library will be closed on Saturday, January 1, 2011 in observance of the New Year.  Happy New Year everyone!!!

Toddler Time will be offered on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 11 a.m.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to attend as we read stories, color and have a light snack.

The library will be closed on Monday, January 17th in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  Have a blessed day everyone.

Lunch & Learn will begin for the New Year on Wednesday, January 26th at 12 noon in the meeting room.  The guest speaker for this meeting is yet to be announced so stay tuned for further details.  Bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.

What a full calendar of events.  We are excited!  We will once again be having periodic closing of some sections of the library because of interior painting to be done.  This will also mean that books may become unavailable because they will be boxed up and stored during the painting process.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.  We are in the final stages of the planned renovations and the library will look fantastic when it is through.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

            Happy Reading!!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas . . . and indeed it is!  Everything looks so pretty around town.  All the lights, garland, and bows and other decorations are just beautiful.  And what could be more beautiful than curling up on the couch under a warm blanket, a cup of hot cocoa by your side and a book by your favorite author that you just checked out from the library???  Holiday bliss!

There are only a few weeks left in this year, and that means that library programs are winding down for the year as well.  We have just one other event on our calendar here at the library and it is Toddler Time.  Toddler Time is scheduled for Monday, December 20th at 11 a.m.  We have stories, coloring and a light snack.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to join us for Toddler Time at the Library.

The library will be closed on Friday, December 24th; Saturday, December 25th; and Monday, December 27th in observance of the holiday.  We will also be closed on Saturday, January 1, 2011 in honor of the New Year.  We hope that everyone has a blessed holiday season.

We know that everyone is busy preparing for the holidays, but you still need time for a good book.  Here are a few of the new titles that we have recently added to our collections:

                        “Christmas Mourning” by Margaret Maron

“One from the Hart” by Stephanie Powers

“On Christmas Eve” by Thomas Kincade

“Tempted by Trouble” by Eric Jerome Dickey

                        “The Confession” by John Grisham

This is just a small sample of some of the books that we have.  We have more great books to chose from, just come in and check the shelves and we will help you find just  the book you are looking for.  Or if you would prefer to listen to your favorite author, we do have tapes and CDs available for checkout.  There is also the READS program.  The Regional E-Book and Audio-book Download System is available to anyone with a current library card.  You may down load to your home computer, burn your own CDs, or MP3 and have your favorite book at your fingertips.  Just visit this site http://reads.lib.overdrive.com and download some books today, perfect for the holidays!

What a spectacular night to have the Annual Gingerbread House Family Night!  What a crowd too!  And such beautiful houses!  There were magnificent gingerbread house all over the place.  These kids have such talent.  There was a lot of laughter from “The Gingerbread Baby” and “Gingerbread Friends” and a lot of sticky, gooey, candy-munching fun here at the library.  We are so please to offer this annual program each year.  We only wish that we had a slightly bigger facility to have it in to accommodate all those who wish to participate.

Since this is the month of December and the year is quickly winding down, there are not a lot of activities planned for this month.  What we do have it Toddler Time on the first and third Mondays of the month (December 6th and December 20th) at 11 a.m.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to attend and to listen to stories, have a color/craft project, and a light snack.  There will be NO Lunch & Learn for the month of December.  And finally, the library will be closed on Friday, December 24th; Saturday, December 25th; and Monday, December 27th in observance of the Christmas holidays.  We will also be closed on Saturday, January 1, 2011 in observance of New Year’s Day.

We would like to thank everyone for their cooperation in the periodic closure of sections of the library so that the renovations could take place. All the carpet is done!  Yea!!!!!!  Now all we have to do is (gulp) paint and a new tile entry.  We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Due to ongoing library renovations, there was a brief lapse in getting the Library Corner articles onto the blog.  Our apologies.  Here is Library Corner for 12 2 10.

December is already here?!?  Can you believe it?  It seems like just yesterday that we were ringing in the year 2010.  Now, the year 2011 is just around the corner.  Wow, time really does just fly by when you are having fun.  And we have a lot of fun here at the library!  Oh yes, a Happy Hanukkah to all our patrons as well.

Here is the list of events that are happening here at the library for the month of December:

Friday, December 3rd is the Annual Gingerbread House Family Night at 7 p.m.  There is always lots of fun and excitement at this event.  Reservations are required, as space is very limited.  Call the library for details.

Monday, December 6th is Toddler Time at 11 a.m.  Please join us for stories, coloring/craft, and a light snack.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to attend.

Toddler Time will also be offered on Monday, December 20th at 11 a.m.  Please join us.

There will be no Lunch & Learn for the month of December.  Lunch & Learn will resume in January 2011.

The library will be closed on Friday (Dec. 24th), Saturday (Dec. 25th), Sunday (Dec. 26th), and Monday (Dec. 27th) in observance of the holidays.

Please excuse of mess.  Renovations are still being completed here.  The new carpet should be completely installed soon.  The new baseboards are looking good.  We have new tile for the entryway that has yet to be done.  Then the interior needs paint.  The library will look fantastic once all this work is completed, but until then, please continue to excuse or mess.  We are doing our best to make the library as pleasing and inviting for all our patrons as we can.

            Happy Reading!
