Oh my heaven’s it just can’t be that tomorrow is April Fool’s Day!  Say it isn’t so!  Well, we hope that no-one pulls any bad April Fool’s pranks.  We might just have to be closed tomorrow . . .

A big thank you to Allison Brasher from Crestview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for being our speaker for Lunch & Learn last week.  Everyone learned some great information.  Brownsville is very lucky to have the services that Crestview has to offer.  Thank you again, Allison, for coming and being with us.  Come back again anytime!

Now that a new month is here, here is the schedule of events for the library:

Monday, April 4th and Monday, April 18th– Toddler Time at 11 a.m.  Please join us for stories, coloring and a light snack.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to join us.

The library will be closed on Friday, April 22nd in observance of Good Friday.

Wednesday, April 27th – Lunch & Learn at noon.  Our guest speaker is still to be announced so stay tuned for details.  Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.

We love books here at the library. (Imagine that!)  We like for others to love books as well, but some people don’t like having to carry books with them.  There is a solution for that.  That solution is the Regional E-Book and Audio-Book Download System (READS).  All you need is a home computer, your own library card, and this website:  http://reads.lib.overdrive.com  What will this do?  This site will allow you to check-out and download your favorite book onto your home computer, burn to CD or MP3 player and you can listen to your favorite author.  READS is a great free service provided for you through the state of Tennessee and us, your local library.  Enjoy!

            Happy Raeding!

This month is really flying by.  The month of April is just around the corner.  At least it is springtime.  We have wonderful spring temperatures.  All the spring flowers are just beginning to bloom.  All this nice weather makes you just want to spend time out doors in the fresh air.  You can do that by sitting on a porch swing and reading your favorite book!

Since spring cleaning time has arrived and the library has had renovations being done since summer/fall of 2010, we would like to invite everyone to the library to see how fresh and bright we look!  We have had new cupola windows installed, new carpet installed, fresh coats of paint on the outside and inside, new tile laid, brickwork redone, and new window treatments installed.  We are very proud of how the library looks and we hope that you are proud of us too!  Please stop by and check out a book or two while you are here.

Tax Day is also quickly approaching.  Have you filed your taxes yet?  Do you need tax forms?  We have tax forms here at the library!  We are the only location in town that carries the forms.  If we don’t have the specific form that you need, please ask at the desk.  We may be able to find the form on-line for you.  We are only able to provide you with the forms, we cannot offer any type of tax advice.  If you have questions about which forms you need, please contact a certified tax preparer of the IRS.

Are you working on school or work projects and need research resources?  We have just the option for you.  The Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL) is just the site you need for all your research needs.  The TEL site is an on-line database of scholarly journals, articles and other reference materials; access to newspapers; Genealogical research tools, and practice tests for the GED, ACT, SAT, GRE and other professional tests – all at your fingertips.  Try TEL today!  You can access TEL at the library or from your own home computer.

            Happy Reading!

Flowers are starting to bloom.  Is spring here?  We certainly hope so.  What is your favorite flower?  Mine (Katherine’s) is the buttercup, Ginger’s is the rose, and Sherry says to surprise her.  They smell so good and are so pretty.  We have a great selection of gardening books to help you plan your spring and summer gardens.  Flowers, fruits, and vegetables – oh my!

Lunch & Learn is coming up next Wednesday, March 23rd at 12 noon in the library meeting room.  Our guest speaker will be Allison Brasher from Crestview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.  Please join us as we welcome Allison to the library.  Bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.  Let’s Lunch & Learn at the library!

We still have tax forms available.  We still cannot answer any tax questions.  If you have a question about which forms you need, please contact a certified tax preparer or the IRS.  Tax day is about a month away.  Have you filed your taxes yet?

The Book Sale tables are no longer standing.  But don’t panic!  All the Book Sale materials have been relocated.  Book Sale materials have been moved to the shelves near the main bank of computers.  They have also been separated by fiction, non-fiction, paperbacks, and audios/videos, etc.  Come and see!

We have some recently added books here at the library.  Here is a short list:

                        “Fatal Error” by Judith Jance

                        “Fadeaway Girl” by Martha Grimes

“Heartwood: A Novel: by Belva Plain

                        “And Furthermore” by Judy Dench

“Devil’s Food Cake Murder” by Joanne Fluke

“Now You See Her” by Joy Fielding

            Happy Reading!

Spring is here!  We love it!  We have cool breezes and warm sunshine.  All this great spring weather to get outside, soak in some sun, play a little, laugh a little, then plop down onto a blanket and read a great book!  Also, don’t forget an umbrella to ward off the occasional spring shower.  We hope that everyone is enjoying themselves, because we know that we are.

Did you know that, as of January, we have over 35,000 items in the library?  That is quite a few and we have to inventory them all.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we undergo this inventory process.  In January, patrons checked out over 2000 items.  That’s pretty good, but we want that number higher!  What can we do to interest you in a book?

We are aware that there are people who don’t want to have a book in their hands, and yet they want to read.  What can be done about this and how can the library help?  It is very simple, we have the READS program just for you.  What is READS, you ask?  READS stands for the Regional E-book and Audio-book Download System.  READS enables all our patrons, who have access to a home computer, to download their favorite book to their home computer, MP3 player, or CDs.  All you need is a home computer (and no we cannot download them here at the library, our apologies) with internet access, this website:  http://reads.lib.overdrive.com and your library card – then you can download and listen to your favorite book all for free!.  Try it today!

There is another great program that we want people to know about.  It is TEL.  TEL is the Tennessee Electronic Library, an on-line database for all your research needs.  You may access TEL at school, home, and here at the library.  TEL has access to current research (professional journals, articles, books), newspapers, genealogy searching, and practice tests (for GED, GRE, etc).  TEL is a wonderful research tool and we encourage everyone to make use of it.  The best part – it’s free, to everyone, absolutely free!

Here are just a few quick reminders.  We have Toddler Time on Monday, March 21st at 11 a.m. and Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, March 23rd at noon.  And we still have tax forms!!

            Happy Reading!

March?  The month of March is here already?  That is just so hard to believe.  Where has all the time gone?  Well, hopefully, March won’t march in too loudly.  We are glad for the more spring-like weather instead of more snow.

We must give a big round of applause and extend a hearty “thank you” to Mr. David Smith who was our speaker for Lunch & Learn last week.  Everyone learned or relearned some important fire safety tips.  Thank you so much for taking the time to be with us and sharing this important information.

Since we are into a new month, here is the schedule of events for the library.  We hope that you come by and visit with us at any time.

Toddler Time will be offered on the first and third Mondays of the month (7th and 21st) at 11 a.m.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to attend and listen to stories and color or have a simple craft.  We love Toddler Time at the Library!

Lunch & Learn will be offered on Wednesday, March 23rd at 12 noon in the meeting room.  Our guest presenter is yet to be determined, so stay tuned for details.  Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.  Let’s Lunch & Learn at the Library!

We have tax forms!  The staff of the library is not qualified to give you any tax advice.  If you have questions regarding your taxes, please contact a certified tax preparer or the IRS.  Thanks!  Tax forms are located on the rack on the right-hand side of the tiled entryway after you have entered the main section of the library.
