Oh my heavens, has this month just flown by!  Or maybe it was pushed out by all the strong winds that have happened lately?  Who knows?  We just can’t believe that school will be out soon and then summer will be here.  And since summer will be here it is time to start talking about our summer reading program.

Summer Reading 2011’s theme is “One World, Many Stories”.  We are looking forward to great programs about our multicultural world.  Along with great crafts, stories, music – oh so much fun!  Our Storyhours will take place on Thursdays at 2 p.m. beginning on June 9th and running through July 14th.  More details will be provided later in the month of May.

Since the month of May is just around the corner, here is the schedule of events for the library:

Monday, May 2nd:  Toddler Time at 11 a.m.  Please join us for stories, coloring, and a light snack.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to attend.

Will April showers bring May flowers?  Well, we certainly hope so!  What is there to do on a rainy day?  That’s easy – read a book!  We are having a lovely spring here at the library.  The month of April is quickly coming to a close but there is at least one last program coming up for the month, and it is . . .

Lunch & Learn will be offered on Wednesday, April 27th at 12 noon in the library meeting room.  Our guest speakers will be three students from theUniversity ofMemphis who are involved in the Brownsville On The Move campaign.  We are looking forward to having them with us (I haven’t been told their names yet otherwise I would say who they are.).  Please join us, all are invited to attend.  Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.  Let’s Lunch & Learn at the library!

The library would like to announce that changes have been made to the Meeting Room Use Policy.  These changes are: 1) increasing the amount paid for the use of the room to $50.00, and 2) increasing the amount for the key/damage deposit to $100.00.  These changes take place immediately.  For those who have already booked the room prior to April 11, 2011, the old charges ($40.00 room use, and $10.00 key deposit) will remain.  Since the Meeting Room has been newly renovated, the library is strictly enforcing the rules governing the use of the room especially that NO MATERIALS MAY BE AFFIXED IN ANY MANNER TO THE WALLS, CEILING, DOORS, WINDOWS OR OUTSIDE POSTS.   The room must be kept in order (including the closets where the tables and chairs are stored) and cleaned and in the exact manner in which it was found with no damaged areas to the structure to be able to receive the key/damage deposit back.

The library will be closed on Friday, April 22nd, in observance of Good Friday.  Everyone have a blessed day.

            Happy Reading!

The Friends of the Elma Ross Public Library needs some assistance.  We are very thankful to all those in Brownsville/Haywood County who are members of the Friends of the Library organization.  The Friends of the Library is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that helps support library collections and outreach programs at the library.  Friends of the Library are citizens who value the service of public libraries and volunteer to help them.  Friends of the Library serve as “connecting links” between the library and community.  They encourage use of the library collections and services.  Friends of the Library sponsor occasional meetings (4 times a year) featuring guest speakers and audio-visual programs.  Friends of the Library raise funds to assist the library in collections and programming.  Fundraising events include the yearly membership drive and book sales.  While we have done fairly well with the membership drive and book sales, the Friends of the Library are in need of assistance with the governing of the Friends of the Library organization itself.  The Friends of the Library needs people willing to volunteer to be on the Friends Board which helps plan the Friends events and book sales here at the library.  Board meetings occur 4 times a year, unless more are needed.  Can we count on you?  Please contact the library, 772-9534 or elmarosslibrary@bellsouth.net,  if you are interested in becoming a Board Member of the Friends of the Library.  Thank you.

Now on to other library news.  Toddler Time will be offered on Monday, April 18th at 11 a.m.  Please join us for stories, coloring and a light snack.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to attend.

The library will be closed on Friday, April 22, 2011 in observance of Good Friday.  We hope that everyone has a blessed day.

Lunch & Learn will be offered on Wednesday, April 27th at 12 noon.  We are still awaiting confirmation about our speaker for this month.  As soon as we get confirmation, we will announce who the speaker will be.  Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.

Please remember we are in the LAST DAYS to get TAX FORMS from the library.  Once the Tax Day deadline passes, we cannot give out the forms.

Tax day is almost here.  Scary thought isn’t it?  But true, nonetheless.  We have tax forms available here.  Please let us know if we don’t have the form you are searching for in our form rack and we may be able to access it from the IRS website www.irs.gov .  The staff of the library is unable to give out any type of tax advice.  If you have a question about your taxes, please contact a certified tax preparer or the IRS.

The month of April is now here and hopefully spring-like weather will be around for a bit.  Springtime is such a lovely time to visit the library.  Here is the schedule of events for the month:

We have Toddler Time on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at 11 a.m.  We have stories and coloring and lots and lots of fun.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to join us for Toddler Time at the library.  The next Toddler Time is set for Monday, April 18th at 11 a.m.

The library will be closed on Friday, April 22nd in observance of Good Friday.  We hope that everyone has a blessed day.

Lunch & Learn will be offered on Wednesday, April 27th at 12 noon in the (now freshly painted and lovely looking) Meeting Room.  Our guest speaker is soon to be announced, so please stay tuned for details.  Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.

Wow, what a busy month.  School will be over in just a few weeks, but research projects are coming due.  Have you found all your sources for your research papers?  Well, in addition to all the great information housed in the library, we also have access to a great on-line database full of professional journals, articles, and e-books, as well as magazines and newspapers.  This on-line database is called the Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL) and it is free!  TEL is a great source for all your research needs.  You can access TEL at the library or at home if you have a home computer.  Try TEL today!
