This month is just flying by, isn’t it?  At least the weather is a bit cooler.  Fall is definitely in the air.  We love fall here at the library.  Why?  Because it is always easy to “fall” into a good book.  And we constantly say never to “leaf” the pages of a good book unturned.

Since the month of September is almost over there isn’t much left on our calendar.  However, we did want to state that there will be NO Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, the 28th.  There is an in-service training at the Forked Deer Regional Library that the Assistant Director and I are attending that day.  But have no fear, Lunch & Learn will be back in October!

Are you good with computers?  Do you like helping people find information online?  Are you willing to put your computer skills to work as a volunteer here at the library?  The library is currently looking for volunteers to help with the Medicare Part D sign-up period.  We could really use the help.  Call or come by today.

The Friends of the Library is looking for several people interested in maintaining the Friends organization which consists of assisting with planning the quarterly programs, helping with book sale items and being an advocate for the library in the community.  Please consider this volunteer opportunity to assist the Friends Group and the library.  The Friends group needs you.  Contact Katherine at the library (772-9534 or elmarosslibrary@bellsouth.net) if you are interested.

Now that schools are back in the swing of things we just want to remind everyone about a couple of great resources.  The Tennessee Electronic Library, commonly called TEL, and the Regional E-book and Audio-book Download System, commonly called READS.  Both of these programs are FREE and are available to all people inHaywoodCounty.  TEL offers four main components: research, newspapers, genealogy, and test prep.  READS is great for people who like to listen to their favorite books, while travelling, working or commuting.  Did we mention that these programs are free?

School is back in session.  Sports have resumed.  The sound of marching band fills the air.  The library is ready for fall to feel like fall!  We have a great month ahead of us.  Here is our schedule:

The Library was closed on Monday, September 5th in observance of Labor Day.  We hope that everyone had a great day.

The library wishes everyone a blessed and peaceful 10th Anniversary of 9-11.  Thank you and God’s Blessings to all of our folks who work tirelessly to protect us.  God Bless us all and keep the memories of everyone who lost their lives on 9-11 with us in triumph.

Toddler Time will be offered on Monday, September 19th at 11 am.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to come to the library to hear stories and color.  We love Toddler Time at the Library.

Lunch & Learn will be offered on Wednesday, September 28th at 12 noon.  Our guest speaker is yet to be determined so stay tuned for details.

Ok folks, we need some people to volunteer their time and computer experience here at the library.  Medicare Part D sign-up time is quickly approaching.  While the library staff is able to assist people with researching Medicare Part D, we could really use some volunteers to assist us as the website does take quite a bit of time to navigate.  If you are interested in helping others research on the internet, please contact the library.  We need volunteers!  Call 772-9534 or come by the library.

What a wonderful evening we had on Tuesday, August 16th for Friends Night.  A big, heartfelt “thank you” needs to be extended to Dr. Lee Ramsey for being our guest presenter for the evening.  Dr. Ramsey, a professor at Memphis Theological Seminary, spoke about his book titled “Preachers and Misfits, Prophets and Thieves: the Minister in Southern Fiction.”  Dr. Ramsey gave quite a spirited presentation and several readings from his work.  Thank you, Dr. Ramsey for being with us and sharing your book with us.  If you weren’t there, you missed a great evening.

Many people in the community are members of the Friends of the Library.  We are very proud and thankful for all our members.  We are very thankful for the existing leadership of the Friends because they have worked very hard and are very dedicated.  However, the Friends of the Library group needs additional leadership to assist with the operations of the Friends.  Are you interested in helping serve the Friends of the Library Board?  There are 4 Board meetings each year to help run the organization and plan its programs.  Would you make the time to serve on this board?  Please contact Katherine at the library (772-9534 or elmarosslibrary@bellsouth.net) if you are interested.  We could use your help . . .

The Library is looking for a Part-Time Library Assistant.  The hours the job entails are Mondays from 5-8pm and Saturdays from 1-5pm.  Do you love books?  Do you like working with people?  Do you have good computer skills?  Applications are available at the circulation desk.  We are looking for someone over 21 please.  Please contact the library (772-9534 or elmarosslibrary@bellsouth.net) with any questions.

A big round of applause is being given to Mr. Tom Carr from Century Farm Winery who was our guest speaker last week for Lunch & Learn.  We learned so much about the winemaking process and had a lovely time tasting samples.  Thank you Mr. Carr for being with us.

Can it be that the month of September is here?  Where has this year gone?  Here is a schedule of events for the library for the month.

The Library will be closed on Monday, September 5, 2011 in observance of Labor Day.  We hope that everyone has a blessed day.

Toddler Time will be offered on Monday, September 19th at 11 a.m.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to have stories and coloring with us on the first and third Mondays of each month.

Lunch & Learn will be offered on Wednesday, September 28th at 12 noon.  Our speakers vary each month.  You never know just what you will learn here at the library at Lunch & Learn.  Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.
