Happy Valentine’s Day!  What is the best Valentine’s Day gift?  The gift of reading of course!  Well . . . there is always chocolate.  Better yet – eating chocolate while reading a great book!  What did you receive for Valentine’s Day?

The library staff will be learning all about our new circulation system next week.  We are excited about all the new possibilities.  We hope that you will be excited too!  It will be a bit of a change for all of us.  Please be patient as we learn this new system.  Thanks!

Since library staff will be at training next week, the library has moved Lunch & Learn to the following week.  Lunch & Learn will be offered on Wednesday, February 29th, at 12 noon.  Our guest speaker will be announced shortly.  Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.

Computer classes are going well.  We hope that those attending are having as much fun learning about these programs as we are having teaching them.  There are 2 classes left for February.  They are Microsoft Publisher (21st) and Microsoft Excel (28th).  We have just a few spots left for each class in the mornings and the afternoons.  Please contact the library (772-9534) if you would like to register for one of these free computer classes.  More classes will be available in March and April, so stay tuned!

February may be a short month, but some great things happen too!  This month is Black History Month.  We have a wide variety of materials available for your reading pleasure.  We also want to remind everyone about TEL.  The Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL) is an on-line database full of wonderful resources for all your research needs.    TEL offers, books, periodicals, scholarly journals, newspapers, and e-books all for you.  TEL even shows you how to properly cite the materials that you use.  Use TEL, along with the materials in the library, for your Black History projects needs.

Computer classes still have a little bit of room.  Sign-up is easy – just call or come by the library and sign-up for the class of your choice.  Classes for the rest of this month include:  Microsoft Power Point (Feb. 14th), Microsoft Publisher (Feb. 21st), and Microsoft Excel (Feb. 28th).

We have Tax Forms!  The library is the only place (that we know of) that has tax forms available to the public.  Please take only what you need.  If you do not see the form that you need, please ask at the circulation desk.  You can also get tax forms from the IRS website.  Just visit IRS.gov and look under “Forms and Publications.”  The staff of the library is not able to give any type of tax advice.  If you have questions regarding your taxes, please contact a certified tax preparer or the IRS.

The library will be getting a new circulation program soon.  Three of our staff members will be receiving training on this new program on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, of February.  Please be patient with us as we learn this new software.  We are excited because this new software is an on-line catalogue and will enable all our patrons to access out catalogue at any time.  There will be some other great features to tell you about as soon as the staff have learned all about them first.

            Happy Reading!

It is Groundhog’s Day, did Puxsutawney Phil see his shadow? Hmmmmm?  Ah well, we never trust weather predictions anyway.   February is here and we are having a great time here at the library.

Katherine Horn, Library Director gave a presentation about the “Booker Place” historic home renovations for Lunch & Learn last week.  We had a very fun and inquisitive crowd in attendance.  Katherine (I) had a very enjoyable time presenting this program.  Thanks for attending.

Toddler Time will be on Monday, February 6th at 11 am.  All parents and caregivers with toddlers are invited to come to the library to hear stories, color (or other small craft) and have a light snack.  We love having Toddler Time at the library.  Toddler Time will also be offered on Monday, February 20th at 11am.

Free Computer Classes for February include:  IRS.gov on Tuesday, February 7th; Microsoft Power Point on Tuesday, February 14th; Microsoft Publisher on Tuesday, February 21st; and Microsoft Excel on Tuesday, February 28th.  Class times on these Tuesdays are 8:30-9:30am and 3-4pm.  Class size is limited, so please call in or come by to register for classes today.  Computer Lab Day will be offered on Fridays from 8:30-9:30am and 3-4pm for those who have registered for the classes.  These classes are FREE!

The staff of the library will be learning some great new things on February 21-23rd.  We will be learning about the new circulation system that we will be getting here at the library.  This is definitely a learning process, so please bear with us as we learn this new system.  Once the new system is up and running, all our library patrons will be able to access the library collection anytime of the day or night. Yea!

The Friends Group is gearing up for a new year and we are excited as we get some things going.  Stay tuned for details about how you can help the Friends!
