Summer isn’t over yet.  The heat has certainly told us that.  How else do we know that?  We know it because Adult Summer Reading Contest for the month of July isn’t over yet.  There are still a few days left to enter the contest.  After reading your book that you checked out from the library, you return said book to the library, and you then proceed to fill out a “How I Liked This Book” form found at the circulation desk and drop it in the drawing box.  Easy!  Only a few days left to get those entry forms in.  We love summer reading here at the library.

This month is flying by.  We will be gearing up for school soon.  The library will again be offering Free Computer Classes starting August 7th.  Classes include Beginning Computers (August 7th); Microsoft Word (August 14th); Creating E-Mails (August 21st); and Creating Resumes (August 28th).  We will have two class times on Tuesdays, 8:30am – 9:30am and 3pm – 4pm.  Class size is limited to ten people and registration is required.  There is a Lab Day for each class on Fridays also from 8:30am – 9:30am and 3pm – 4pm.  Once you are signed up for a class, you are signed up for the Friday Lab Day.  These classes cover the basics of each program and are not in-depth training on any computer systems.  Register now – space is limited!

Here is our calendar of events for August here at the library, not including the free computer classes whose schedule is listed in the above paragraph:

Toddler Time will be offered on Monday, August6th and Monday, August 20th at 11 am.  All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to come to the library, listen to stories, coloring or other crafts, and a light snack.  We love Toddler Time at the Library!

Lunch & Learn will be offered on Wednesday, August 22nd at 12 noon in the Library Meeting Room.  Our guest speaker is TBA, so stay tuned for details.  Please remember to bring a lunch, the library will provide drinks and dessert.  Let’s Lunch & Learn at the Library!

Friends Night at the Library will be Tuesday, August 28th at 7pm.  Our guest speaker will be Dr. Joan Hartman, who has written a book of short stories called “Amen and His Family”.  We look forward to having Dr. Hartman with us again.  Light refreshments will be served.  All are invited to attend.

Did you have a Happy 4th of July?  We certainly hope that you did.  It is wonderful that we can celebrate our country’s Independence Day.  Fireworks are always fun, but it is always more enjoyable to be able to spend time with family and friends.

A big thank you is extended to Rev. Craig Myrick for his presentation about his recent trip toEuropefor Lunch & Learn last week.  The pictures were wonderful.  Thank you for sharing your trip with us.  If you missed it, you missed a great presentation.

Well, what have we got on the calendar of events for the library this month?  Let’s see.  Ah yes, Summer Reading.  Dream Big – Read! and Own the Night book logs MUST be TURNED IN to the library by 5pm on July 5th to be eligible for prizes.  There will be no exceptions to this rule.  So remember, all book logs must be turned in by 5pm on July 5th.  We have one last program for our summer reading program.  We will be having our Puppet Show on Thursday July 12th at 2pm for Dream Big – Read! participants.  Own the Night will also be having its final program this day at 3:15pm.  We hear that some cool plans are happening.  Prizes for both groups will be given this day as well.  The library’s Adult Summer Reading Contest for June ended on June 30th.  Since this article is being written and submitted before the final day, the name will be released next week.  Adults also have a reading contest for the month of July, so keep reading.  The drawing for this contest will be on July 31st.
