A Very Merry Christmas to you and yours from the Elma Ross Public Library. Also a reminder that the library will be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2015 for the New Year holiday. The following is to be sung to the tune of “Deck the Halls.”

Deck the halls with shelves of books.
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Tis the season to be reading.
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Don we now our reading glasses.
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Reading’s fun for all the masses.
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

See the book pile grow before us,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
It’s family reading time, come and join us!
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Follow us to the public library,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
While we find great books to read.
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Fast away the old year passes,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Hail TEL and READS, lads and lasses.
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Read a story, all together,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Heedless of the wind and weather,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

The Elma Ross Public Library is operated under the guidelines of the Tennessee State Library and Archives. The Tennessee State Library and Archives has recently revised the Tennessee Standards for Non-Metropolitan Public Libraries. That’s us, by the way. According to “The Standards”, a Level III Library, (Level III – meaning that our service populations is between 10,000 – 24,999 people), such as ourselves, should be open to the public for 45 hours per week with evening and weekend hours. The Library’s current operating hours are 42 hours per week. The Library Board of the Elma Ross Public Library, after reviewing “The Standards” and the current hours of operation, has voted to extend the library’s operating hours to meet the standards set forth for a Level III Library. The most effective way to add to the library’s hours of operation are to increase our Saturday hours from being a part-day to a full-day. So, the library’s NEW Saturday hours will be 10am – 5pm, instead of the current hours of 1pm – 5pm. This change will be in effect beginning in January 2015.

The last Toddler Time of 2014 will be offered on Monday, December 15, at 11am. All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to come to the library and listen to stories and have coloring or other small craft. We love Toddler Time at the Library!

The Elma Ross Public Library will be closed on Wednesday (December 24), Thursday (December 25), and Friday (December 26) in observance of the Christmas Holiday.

Wait! Wait just a minute here. This just cannot be right. Look at this calendar. It should not say that it is the month of December yet. It just can’t. This year has flown way too fast. December, oh December, you are here . . . . . well, that means a few exciting things.

The Annual Gingerbread House Family Night is tomorrow night, Friday, December 5 at 7pm. We are super excited. Let’s see, do we have everything ready? Do we have our “Gingerbread Baby” and “Gingerbread Friends” books to read? Check. Do we have all our gingerbread decorations for the library? Check. Do we have our gingerbread bases ready? Check. Do we have plenty of frosting, graham crackers, and candy? Check. Do we have a full roster of children and parents to attend? Check. We are ready for Gingerbread House Family Night – Yea!

Monday, December 15 at 11am we will have Toddler Time for all toddlers and their caregivers. We’ll have some great stories, and color/craft. We love Toddler Time at the Library. Come and join us.

The Elma Ross Public Library will be closed on Wednesday (December 24), Thursday (December 25), and Friday (December 26) in observance of the Christmas Holiday.
