The Elma Ross Public Library will be closed on Thursday (November 26) and Friday (November 26) of next week as we celebrate the Thanksgiving Day holiday. We hope and pray that everyone has a blessed day. If you are looking for some tasty recipes for this coming holiday, come to the library and check out some of our great cookbooks. Loads of ideas for cooking and decorating.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, which must mean one thing . . . the Annual Gingerbread House Family Night will soon be here. The Annual Gingerbread House Family Night will take place on Friday, December 4, at 7pm. We have so much fun at this great family event. We read the story of the “Gingerbread Baby” and “Gingerbread Friends”, then we make gingerbread houses with graham crackers, frosting and candy. There is no cost to attend this program, but we do ask that you register to attend as our space is limited. Reservations will be accepted AFTER Thanksgiving.

“Veterans Day honors men and women who have served in the United States armed services. Veterans Day is a legal federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated on November 11, the anniversary of the end of World War I (1914-1918). Canada, Australia, and New Zealand observe November 11 as Remembrance Day to honor people who have died in war. The United Kingdom celebrates Remembrance Day on the Sunday closest to November 11. Veterans Day celebrations in the United States include parades and speeches. Special services are held at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as Armistice Day to remind Americans of the tragedies of war. A 1938 law made the day a federal holiday. In 1954, Congress changed the holiday’s name to Veterans Day to honor all United States veterans.” Uhler, S. G. (2015). Veterans Day. In World Book Advanced. Retrieved from

November? Already?? How can that possibly be? Let me check the calendar. Yep, it is indeed the month of November. What is in store at the library for the month? Well, let’s see what we have on tap for this month. We will have Toddler Time on the first (2nd) and third (16th) Monday of the month at 11am. We love seeing toddlers and their caregivers come and listen to stories, and color. We also have the Free Basic Skills Computer Class on the first Monday (2nd) of the month at 2pm. These classes are offered on a first come, first served basis and are limited to the first ten people who arrive. And, again, they are FREE. The staff of the Elma Ross Public Library would like to wish all our Veteran’s a Blessed Veteran’s Day on Nov. 11th. We are pleased to announce that Friends Night will be offered on Tuesday, November 17th at 7pm. Our guest speaker will be mid-south author A. Christopher Drown, author of A Mage of None Magic. We are looking forward to having Christopher with us. All are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served. There will be no Lunch & Learn programs offered in November and December because of the holidays. Lastly, the Elma Ross Public Library will be closed on Thursday (Nov. 26th) and Friday (Nov. 27th) in observance of Thanksgiving.
