We have some new computers! The new equipment was installed last week. There are still a few tweaks that have to happen with them. We discovered these tweaks after the techs had left, so we do have a return visit being scheduled. The tweaks include the ability to scan to the new computers and some issues with Microsoft Word. The new computers are Windows 10 machines and we (library staff) have to get used to the new layout, etc., so please excuse us as we learn this with you.

The library is having a new Family Night program coming up on Friday, March 3 at 7pm. You are most cordially invited to come and celebrate Dr. Seuss Family Night with us. We will, of course, have stories and a small craft. Dr. Seuss Family Night, March 3 at 7pm.

Half of the month is gone already?? How on earth did that happen? Wow, this year is starting off on a fast pace. Now that we are in the middle of the month, which means that we’ve had Valentine’s Day already. Did you come by the library for your Valentine’s Day Kiss? We certainly hope that you did. We’ve also had some new computer equipment installed. We do apologize for having no public computer access these two days; however, it is much easier for our Regional and State computer technicians to be able to install equipment without interruptions. We hope that you understand. We try exceedingly hard nor to close computer access down very often, but installing new equipment is a priority.

Toddler Time at the Library will be on Monday, February 20 at 11am. All toddlers and their caregivers are invited to come to the library, listen to stories, and color/craft.

Lunch & Leisure at the Library will be on Wednesday, February 23 at 12 noon. Bring your lunch. The library will provide drinks and dessert as we listen to music and color/craft.

Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed Lunch & Leisure with us last week. We had such a wonderful time as we all ate our lunches, listened to some Celtic music and colored. We enjoyed ourselves very much. We are looking forward to this monthly program.

February is now here. Our calendar of events for the month include programs such as Teen Trivia, Toddler Time, Computer Class, Valentine’s Day Treat Day, and Lunch & Leisure. We are starting off the month on Friday, February 3 at 3:30pm with our first Teen Trivia Time. The theme is Harry Potter Trivia. There will be much fun and light refreshments will be served. All teens are invited to attend. Monday, February 6 at 11am will be our Toddler Time program. All parents and toddlers are invited to come and listen to stories and color/craft. Also on February 6 at 2pm will be our Free Basic Skills Computer Class. Seating limit is 10 and is on a first come, first served basis. On Valentine’s Day, February 14 will be offering all our patrons a Valentine’s Day Kiss – a Hershey’s Kiss. Come and celebrate with us. We will be offering Toddler Time again on Monday, February 20 at 11am. Please join us. Wow, what a busy month!

If there is a program that you would like the library to do, please let us know. We are always looking for great programs to do. Happy Reading!

We have tax forms! Or at least some of what we have ordered. We currently have a supply of the 1040EZ form, 1040 form, 1040A form, and 1040A booklet. We have other forms ordered and we are awaiting shipment. Please do be advised that the library cannot give out any of the “red-letter” forms like W2s, W3s or 1099s. Those forms must come from your employer. If you are an employer, you may go to the IRS website (www.irs.gov) and order the forms that you need. The library staff may not give out any type of tax advice, including telling you which form that you would need. If you need tax advice, please contact a certified tax-preparer.

The library staff certainly enjoyed National Popcorn Day last week. Did you come by the library to get a book or two and a bag of popcorn? If not, you missed a treat. The library will be celebrating a day each month and offer a treat. We are looking forward to next month.

Speaking of next month, the library will be hosting a Teen Trivia Program on Friday, February 3rd at 3:30pm. Our theme for the month is Harry Potter Trivia. All teens are invited to attend, light refreshments will be served. The library will be offering a Teen Trivia Program each quarter.

Did you know that there was a National Popcorn Day? There is. Guess what day it is – it is Thursday, January 19. We will be celebrating National Popcorn Day here at the Elma Ross Public Library on Thursday, January 19 by having freshly popped popcorn for anyone who would like some.

The Library will be restructuring our Lunch & Learn Program slightly. Instead of having guest speakers coming in each month, we will be having a coloring/craft event each month. We are calling this modified program Lunch & Leisure at the Library. You bring your own lunch, the library provides drinks, dessert and a neat, calming coloring/craft activity. You are all invited to join us for this new adventure which will start on Wednesday, January 25 at 12 noon. Come and color with us!

We have received some of the tax forms we ordered. They have been placed in the tax form rack on the left-hand side of the isle as you walk into the main part of the library.

Brrrrr, it has been cold outside. However, it has been warm and toasty here in the library. Come on by and visit us. We have wonderfully fantastic books, magazines, audiobooks and DVDs just waiting for you. We did want to bring one item up too.

Tax forms. Sorry to make you shudder like that, but we had to say it – Tax Forms. We ordered our supply of tax forms back in the fall. We have not received any of them yet. We are waiting patiently for their arrival. Until then, you may go on-line to http://www.irs.gov and download the forms you need. If you download them and print them here at the library, printing charges to apply.

One last item. The staff of the Elma Ross Public Library cannot, in any way, shape, or form, give any type of tax advice, which includes asking us which form that you need. All we can do is tell you where the forms are. If you need tax advice, please contact a certified tax preparer. Thank you.

Happy New Year! We are looking forward to great things here at the Elma Ross Public Library in 2017. We have some really great programs scheduled for this year and we hope that you enjoy them as well. We will be trying a few new things here like an Adult Coloring Program that we are calling Lunch & Leisure on the 4th Wednesday of each month at noon (bring your own lunch) and various special pop-up days like Popcorn Day. We also have our regular programs like Toddler Time and the Basic Skills Computer Class. We are also planning a Family Night event each quarter, so stay tuned for more details. 2017 here we come!

Have you made your New Year’s Resolution yet? There is a resolution that I make each year and that is to read more – read something different, maybe get a different perspective, keep myself educated and aware. Reading is one of the most powerful tools that we have in our lives. The skills of successful reading begin at infancy – yes infancy, when our parents read and talk to us. Being read to as an infant helps our reading and learning skills as we grow older. We want our children to have the best things in life which include the ability to read, so start reading early, it helps tremendously.
